Why become a CKC member?

Join the Community Knowledge Centre directory to:

  • Get increased exposure: A CKC profile gives your organization more visibility and gives you the chance to highlight your organization’s work with people who want to help.
  • Access the Members’ Corner: Once you create a profile in the directory, you and anyone on your team will also get access to the Members’ Corner – a dedicated space for Calgary’s nonprofits and charities to access resources, stay informed, and connect with peers.

What are the requirements to join CKC?

CKC membership is open to CRA registered charities, non-profits registered on the Alberta Non-Profit Listing website, and qualified donees whose work is based in and serves Calgary and area – inclusive of Airdrie, Banff, Canmore, Cochrane, and Treaty 7 Nations. For more details on our catchment area please explore Calgary Foundation’s granting boundaries.

Non-registered entities with a fiscal partner will need to speak directly with the registered fiscal partner to be embedded in their CKC profile.

What is a registered charity?

A registered charity is defined as a charitable organization, public foundation, or private foundation registered with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). A registered charity is issued a Registration Number from the CRA once approved.

Nonprofit organizations must be registered on the Alberta Non-Profit Listing website.

What is a qualified donee?

A qualified donee is an organization that can issue official donation receipts for gifts it receives from individuals and corporations. It can also receive gifts from registered charities.

What is an Equity-Deserving Organization?

Calgary Foundation considers Indigenous Communities, Black Communities, Racialized Communities, Disabilities Communities, 2SLGBTQ+ Communities as equity deserving communities.

This list is not exhaustive and is always evolving. People who belong to multiple equity-deserving communities often experience overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage. Taken from the disability movement, the saying “Nothing About Us Without Us” is what guides this definition.
